Feather her nest vintage inspired baby shower

Several weeks ago I held a baby shower for one of my closest friends Kelsie. She and her husband will soon be blessed with a baby girl. For the shower I chose the theme "feather her nest" mostly because I ~~like~~ adore feathers and birds. You may recall that I took Martha's (Vintage Trifles) class on cake books and I made those little cakes with the birds on top. If you missed the pictures they are here on my facebook page. Vintage Trifles Studio Play date

I had such a wonderful time today. My great friend Martha from Vintage Trifles hosted a wonderful play date at her house here in Salem. In this class she taught us how to create these wonderful paper cakes that are made from recycled books. I have been looking forward to this class for a whole year!

Last year if you look back on my blog in February we made these wonderful passports of our past and we had such a blast. After the class was over she had asked us what we would like to do for the next class and we had suggested the cake books.

For the past month I have been pondering what the theme of my cake would be and then I realized that I have a baby shower coming up that I am planning and these would be

a wonderful addition to my buffet and also my decor.

The theme that I am going for with the shower is "Feather her Nest"

So here is my "Cake":

After the class was finished I was lucky enough to spend some extra time in the studio with Martha and my wonderful friends Betty and Carol. We had so much fun chatting with a little wine and brownies. well me being me I just couldn't help myself and started on these adorable buffet markers.

I will be using these for the food for the shower here is how they turned out:

I used some salvage wood pieces that I picked up from my "second mom" Lisa from Randall Wood Estates. I think they just turned out darling! Oh and for the little bird images I used my favorite blog Graphics Fairy I just copied, pasted, and printed them out in the size that I wanted.

If you ever get a chance to go to one of these studio classes DO NOT HESITATE!

On a side note...

I have been getting numerous emails about the Southern Sweet Potato Salad recipe that we served at the Heritage Holiday Faire evening soiree.

Here it is:

Everyone loves and is surprised by this sweet and tangy salad. It makes a lovely presentation and keeps for several days. Double this recipe for your next gathering.

2 lbs sweet potatoes, peeled and cut into 1/2 cubes

2 Tbsp lemon juice

1 Cup mayo

2 Tbsp orange juice

1 Tbsp honey

1 Tsp. grated orange peel

1/2 Tsp. ground fresh ginger

1/4 Tsp. salt

1/8 Tsp. ground nutmeg

1 Tsp. cumin

1 cup chopped celery

1/2 cup craisens

1/2 cup pecans

1/2 cup red onion

1 can (11 oz) Mandarin oranges drained

In a medium saucepan cook sweet potatoes in boiling salted water just until tender, about 5-8 minutes (DO NOT OVERCOOK). Drain; toss with the lemon juice. In a large bowl combine mayo, orange juice, honey, orange peel, ginger, salt, nutmeg, and cumin. Add the warm potatoes, celery, onions, and craisens. Toss to evenly coat dressing on the potatoes. Gently toss the oranges and pecans in the mixture. Cover and chill. It is now ready to serve.

I have been so focused on what to offer for all of your wonderful "roosts" I have completely forgotten what is already a part of your "roost". I have a little Bichon that I have had for 11 years and she has always been my first "child".

Yes in High school I was totally in love with the movie Legally Blonde (no judging) and I am totally guilty of dressing her up and yes she does have a bag that she goes everywhere with me in. Needless to say she's a spoiled rotten dog.

Since I got her I have always hated the selection of clothing/accessories that is offered in pet stores so I have always made my own. Recently I was out and about and several people commented on my new design and wondered were I had purchased it. Although when I told them that I made it myself they were a bit bummed at first that they couldn't find another until I told them that I have a store and would be willing to make a custom one for them. So the idea formed that maybe I should tackle this on a small scale. Here is one design that I have completed.

This is the traditional one that I have always made Mandy (my dog) It has a dual purpose first as a coat and second as a harness. There is a stainless steel loop that you can attach the leash to.

Vintage lace accent.

Lined with cozy fleece

Adorned with chic ruffles

I was surprised to find looking back upon this year how many events that Roost Reimagined was a part of. I knew that throughout the year I always felt busy but it never popped into my brain to actually count out how many things I was a part of. Well looking through my list of 15 different shows I thought to myself that's pretty amazing! I had such a blast meeting new friends and customers. I cannot wait to get started with this year! I did however decide to shift somethings around this year. Holiday Parties are so much fun! This party hasn't happened yet but I finished decorating early so I thought that I would grab some pictures and post them while I have time..

Theme: Christmas party

My "thing" I guess you can say is that I love all things vintage and upcycled so this party was right up my ally. The Host was my dad for a Business party so nothing overdone, just simple and elegant.

9TH Birthday Party

Theme: Superheroes Unite Birthday party

Vintage and retro meets corny batman.

My  son was turning 9 and he wanted a Superhero party.  Well the first  thing that popped into my mind was all those party place themed stuff or  a party in the box.  However that's not really the way that I roll so I  pondered how I could throw a more "vintage" or "retro" style of event  and still make all those kids "super" excited.  Everything in these pictures was handmade by me exclusively for this event.  All paper products (stickers, signs, graphics) were created by me with a simple design program called Print Shop Deluxe

Here is what came out at the end...

These letters are available at Jo-Ann fabrics for 3.99 each.  I just scanned vintage comics and printed them out and decoupaged them onto the cardboard letters.

These capes were made by me and cost around $2 each.  The masks were from a local party store called PartyMart.  They were $1.16 each

These were super cute! I had originally planned on making capes for each of these bottles but of course bit off more than I could chew and ran out of time, but I think they still ended up turning out cute. 

Of course if there are kids you cannot NOT have a candy station right?    The individual candy bags I got at a local candy shoppe called Sugar  Sugar you can find them on Facebook here.  Graphics on bags were added after purchase

So I ended up running all over town for these little pez and eventually found them at Fred Meyer but they were $1.50 each and they only had 8, so on my way out to the barn I stopped at the local Dollar Tree and found the rest that I needed and they were only ...... $1.  While I was there I happened to look around and I found these really great vintage inspired comic books that came 2 to a pack for ..... yes, $1

I'm not really a great cake maker so I passed the baton onto my mom for the birthday cake.  I wanted the cake to be super simple so we went with a 9 inch cake in butter-cream frosting in yellow with a teal "dot" border.  I printed the little graphics out in Print Shop and cut them out and attached them to sticks.  (cake was inspired by pinterest)

So these jello cups were really fun and as a little embellishment I added the striped straws.  The really funny thing was it didn't dawn on me that the kids didn't think of the straws as embellishment they thought that they were really supposed to "drink" the jello.  It was so funny watching them trying to suck the jello up the straw.  My son who by now is used to my quirky "food accessories" was like "my mom just did that for looks"  they all kinda looked at me as if I was trying to play a joke on them.

This banner again was made with Print Shop where I designed the little grey shape and added the letter.  I then backed each letter with yellow felt and hole punched each corner and laced black ribbon through the holes to create a fun theme banner. (banner inspired by pinterest)

I'm not super fond of balloons in general, but for a kids party I felt that they gave good texture to the event.  I love the contemporary feel to them as they are all lined up and the same height on the tables.

All in all it was a wonderful party and to top it off we built a zip-line for the kids to fly down and Robin came for a short visit too.

Roost/I have been super busy this last 6 weeks that's part of being M-I-A in the blog world. I know that I haven't posted any pictures of the Heritage Holiday Faire yet and I am super sorry... However I am super excited to post some pictures of several events that I have designed and put on at the Roost Barn. So here they are:

40th Birthday Party

Theme: Southern Gentleman with a western vintage twist

This party is by FAR one of the most fun parties I have ever planned. The Hostess was amazing to work with (happens to be a friend of mine) and her guests were so fun! She even got a live 5 man band that was really good. Here are some highlights of the event

Now these were something I haven't tried before and yes I had to steal one. Chocolate covered potato chips. And yes they were really good!

This was a really great idea for the RSVP card for the party. She did an ad lib card. You fill in the blanks to make a really funny story about the birthday boy.

Lots of comfy seating... unless you are like me and allergic to hay.

Got to have the Monogram in there!

I love these cake stands. I made them a couple days before the party and I can't wait to use them for spring! I think that a woodland themed easter would be fun to do.

There have been a lot of interest in the Pre-show party menu. After the Deepwood show this summer I wasn't sure I could top that menu but we have added a couple new options and kept some of the favorites so here it is in a nut shell.

Adam's Ribs is joining the party with some marvelous pulled pork sliders

They will also be selling their wonderful sweet and savory sauces at the show.

Sneak Peaks of what I've been up to

I have been working hard all weekend and today with my creations for the Heritage Holiday Faire. This year my focus was to work with what I had. So! I pulled down all my leftover Christmas merchandise that didn't sell from last year and sat down and pondered. Well needless to say there was A LOT to ponder (6 FULL boxes) So I got my supplies out and worked away here are a few pictures of what came out of the fairy dust.

These are antique music scrolls that I embellished with a vintage spoon and some glittery florals

These are vintage wire sock forms that I attached "stockings" to.

Stockings are made out of an old tablecloth.

These were all leftovers that I made an arrangement out of.

This again was another arrangement that I put together with miscellaneous pieces that were leftover from last year. I love how these new pieces came together. It just goes to show that everyone can do a leftover or makeover Christmas each year.

Vendor Highlights for the Heritage Holiday Faire

This year has really flown by for me personally and for my "Roost" business.  What started out as a "upscale garage sale" at my barn a few years ago has grown into a passion for presentation, a job, a building block for friendships and so much more.  I have been so honored that my Roost fans continue to support me and others in my line of business by buying local and participating in the events that I am a part of.

In keeping with the events that I am a part of....

In less then 2 weeks there will be an amazing Holiday faire at the Willamette Heritage Center (AKA: Mission Mill Museum)  I have teamed up with the gift shop in the museum called Danner & Soli.  We have called on our friends, business contacts, local artists, and other local business' to all come together and offer a sort of "one stop shopping" experience for all your holiday decor, gifts, and entertaining needs.  Last year we had about 20 vendors and this year we have doubled the vendors to 40!

So here it is time for the second Annual Heritage Holiday Faire. This is a wonderful event for the community. There will be a great mix of vintage, new, handcrafted, and seasonal gifts to buy. The kids will enjoy horse rides around the mill and many more activities.

Lunch selections, sweet indulgences, and espresso drinks will be provided by Cafe Venae. The famous Kettle Korn guy will be there popping on site.

Studio Sub Dio will be doing an on location "photo booth" with studio lighting, backdrops, a large selections of props, and FREE online image download. For all you out there that do holiday cards and need a family picture this will be a great time to get one. For more information on the photo booth click here.

So take the day with family and friends to enjoy one of Salem's great historic places.
Danner & Soli and I are working like mad on all of our props for the Faire. Are focus this year is to create a warm and inviting winter lodge feel to our show. We have thought up and tested out a few ideas and some were tossed out and some were embellished even more than even we had dreamed up. The Roost Barn is busting out of its seems with pallets, paint, glitter, and of course feathers! I'll keep you all updated on our progress and I'll be starting vendor profiles on Monday so stay tuned!

So I just finished my set up at the Aunt Bee's Farmhouse show.  I have 200 square feet of treasures to sell.  I also have to say that I was drooling over a lot of the merchandise that was coming in through the doors today.  I'm getting there early to hand out to the first 23 customers through the doors a Roost gift bag!

Learning to weld.

I love that I have a whole auto body shop at my disposal! It comes in so helpful in the projects that I do. My dad restores old vintage cars for a living and so he has every tool under the sun in his shop. Since May this year I have made it a personal goal to learn how to weld with a wire feed welder. I have dabbled here and there with it but I've never done a whole project by myself before.

So about a month ago my did made another "donation" to the Roost Barn. A 1985-1990 daybed. Looking at the thing I thought really? A day bed what the heck am I going to do with that! Not many of my friends are looking to buy one they're not really "THE RAGE" these days especially one that's this beat up. Then I think back to the Molly Mo's show in August when I posted my transformation project on an old baby crib. Do you all remember that post... it went from old broken baby crib to this:

So I thought about this bed frame as a bench and got down to work. Having the proper tools is essential.

I actually don't have the pictures of the frame before I started cutting and welding. I accidentally deleted them. But here is the frame after I cut it down to size. I had to cut sections out off the ends of the daybed back so it would be shorter. Then I had to cut out sections of the sides so that it would be more narrow like a bench instead of a bed.

Then I needed to tack weld the bars in place.

Do to the fact that I am new at this welding thing I needed to grind off some of the weld to make it flat and smooth.

After welding the frame together I decided to use the rails from the bed as the supports to the wood that I planned on cutting to fit inside the rails.

Here is a picture of the bench with the wood piece that (my dad) cut to fit.

So after I got the bench together I needed to find something to fit inside the holes that the brass finials were previously in. (I'm not a huge brass fan and they were dented and rusty in a bad way)

I did however find some old knobs that were pulled off of a dresser in a previous make-over project. Just goes to show, never throw anything useful away.

After inserting the knobs in the hole I painted them and did a once over with paint on the whole frame.

Come Junk With Us Ruffles and Rust Show

Just rolled into Salem at 12:30am this wet Sunday morning and I was so super excited about the Ruffles and Rust show pictures so I just had to jump on here and download them!

This event I have been planning for for a couple weeks now. I usually have a theme for my booth spaces but the rest I kinda "wing it" and usually it turns out pretty good. However I usually have my mom who is super patient helping me and letting me be my creative self along the way. Well this show she couldn't make. I pleaded with my husband to go with me and begrudgingly he said okay. Well he is a Type A personality and has to plan every detail. In accepting his help he wanted me to "map out" my booth so he knew exactly where everything was going to go. So I begrudgingly did so took the pictures of the mock up booth and packed the trailer so it would all come out the way it was to be set out. Me being the "wing it" thought this a little over the top but hey I'm not going to turn down free help.

Well little did I know while packing the trailer I was going to pull a rib out and not be able to breath, bend, or turn my neck! I spent all of Thursday (day of departure) trying to get to a chiropractor and massage therapist and get the rib back in. Long story short I went, they tried, no luck! So all in all I'm glad I did all the pre-planning like my husband wanted because we set up in record time even with me at 1/2 caliber!

Here are a few pictures of my booth at the show. I didn't really get a chance to get any other pictures of anyone else's booth. But all the booths were really inspiring. It was a amazing show and the Come Junk With Us hostesses were wonderful!

Roost Upcycle project

 So I have a really cool dad!  Although throughout my childhood I was often times embarrassed of the things that he wore (stained holed shirts), that he drove (sometime beat up "vintage" cars), that he brought home (junk)... my dad was just ahead of the "green" or "earth friendly" or my term "upcycled" times ... and now  its or I'm catching up with his logic.  (I feel for my son as I review what embarrassed me as a kid)  

I am sure the term "packrat" or "horder" has been thrown his direction a few times due to the fact that as long as I can remember he has been saving things.  Anything that anyone needed to get rid of or didn't have a use for they'd always call Craig because sooner or later he would have a use for it.  He has always told me that "Free is a very good price" and I guess I have to finally agree  

At the age of 16 I didn't really understand why he would waste his time going over to people's houses and pick up their trash (little did I know that a decade later I'd be doing the same thing). 

On that note:  A neighbor of my parents dropped off a beautiful french oak barrel on the doorstep of the Roost Barn. He thought for sure that I would do something with the thing.  Although the earthy smell, the patina of the wood and the zinc metal straps on the barrel called to me I was smack dab in the middle of my summer season of shows.  So I pushed it to the side of barn and put it out of my mind.  Every so often for the last month my dad mentions "Hey you got any ideas for that barrel?" usually in a rush I answer "nope kinda been busy"  Then he'd quitely say "you know you should cut that thing in half and make a planter"  I thought about it for 4 seconds and would answer "that sounds like a plan" and leave it sitting there.  

Time goes by and I have a lazy day at the barn and my dad says to me "come on I got something to show you!"  Whenever he says this sentence I get a little excited and a little nervous.  I know it's either going to be something REALLY awesome that no one will ever find again or REALLY not useful in which I have to REALLY think hard to figure out how to make something cool out of it so I can get it out of my barn (no offense dad cause I know you read my blog) Anyway he takes me out to the barn and I find this:

 So he asks me do you think that you can help me finish it up?  So I say your going to need a seat.  And of course he already had one cut to fit out of an old counter top that he found in the wood pile.  So I say your going to need some foam I can pick you up some today... and he of course had already found some foam in his treasure stash and cut it to fit.  So I ask well what do you need my help for?  and he says "now I need some Roost Reimagined style"  We decided as it was staying with the rustic and recycled theme that we would use an old burlap sack for the cushion cover. Fortunitly I had some burlap sacks out in the Roost Barn.  So here's how the rest of the project turned out...

We stapled the burlap bag over the foam to the bottom of the seat.

Then we grabbed a feed sack recycled pillow out of the Roost Barn too. 

I love the crest on the bag.  Sooo rusticlly cool!

Last chance to get some Roost goodies at Aunt Bee's House

I have been a vendor here for a little over a year now and have loved the hummmmmm or should I say buzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz of creativity and energy of this establishment.  There are some really talented people that make this local business possible. 

I have been really struggling to keep up with the demands of my business of late.  This year I have done a total of 14 shows that have been local, out of town, at my Roost barn, or 2 that I was personally involved in the production of the event.  This has been a blast for me to do but along the way there have been some personal health issues, family emergencies, and life in general.   As a result my booth at Aunt Bee's House has suffered severely.  I have the type of personality that if I can't do something 100% I really get down on myself.  So this month I have had to sit down and take some time to talk with my friends and family and ponder things on my own.  I have written down my goals for the next year and have decided what I feel is the right direction that my life needs to go.

With all this in mind I have decided that I will not be offering Roost Reimagined's wares at Aunt Bee's House as of the end of October.  I will however be a vendor in Aunt Bee's House Farmhouse Shows.  This is a great show that features 30+ local vendors that bring all different types of merchandise. New, vintage, antique, and upcycled.  It's going to be a great event and I am looking forward to it.  The most current show starts on October 27, 28, 29th for more info check out Aunt Bee's blog.

Tomorrow is the Pre-show Black Autumn party. The show opens at 4:00pm and goes until 8:00pm. The Roost barn is absolutely stunning stuffed full to the brim.

I have a special guest vendor at the show this year. This amazing artist is so humble about his pieces. He walks the line of contemporary and vintage and uses lots of upcycled products in his pieces that I just love. His works have continued to adapt with each new medium that he pushes. Here is a little bio and did I mention that he is my little brother?

Introducing Ben Stauber

"I am a person who believes in three very important things: positive attitude, faith and compassion. I have what's called Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy, which is a genetic disease that weakens my muscles as time goes on. It could be very easy to have a negative attitude, but honestly, where would that get me? I am confined to a wheelchair, require the use of a ventilator, a breathing machine at night, I need help with simple physical tasks that the average person takes for granted and… I am thankful for each day that I am given."

"Encouragement from my sister and mother has caused me to focus on my drawing more lately. My sister is owner of Roost Reimagined and has offered to display my art in her shows. My mother, who is Mama Roost, offers her experience and advice. I lack finesse, but fortunately I have two lovely ladies to guide my artistic ventures."

Currently my work has included drawing silhouettes of autumn-themed images. My finished items include functional everyday items such as paperweights, candle votives, and for the Autumn season candle holders These items will be put up for sale in the Roost Black Autumn sale. All items are signed and one of a kind. I look forward to the reactions that will come. It’s also helpful if I learn of ways to improve or adapt my pieces to appeal to a larger spectrum of people. Black Autumn... A Vintage Inspired Halloween ONE WEEK AWAY!

I cannot believe how fast the time has gone. I feel like Summer was just here. Here we are slowly melding into a new season. Fall. I love fall. Fall is the time for harvesting, gathering, and watching the colors of our surroundings change.

Like a squirrel preparing for winter I have been busy preparing for the Black Autumn show next weekend October 7th and 8th. I've been creating away fun accessories, and accents for you and your home. This week my focus will be about putting it all together in the Roost Barn. I have some super fun staging ideas that I am dieing to try out for this show.

Deepwood Vintage Flea Market Pictures

To all my blog friends and followers, I am so sorry for my absence from blog and facebook world. I was so bummed that I didn't get any pictures of the flea market last weekend as I was so busy with the running of the show that it completely escaped my mine to take pictures of my booth. However I opened my email today and received a gift that immediately made me smile. Tressa from Tresa's Treasures her blog is here had taken pictures of my booth and was nice enough to send them to me.

So for a while now I have been creating some super great jewelry, and kitchen accessories from vintage spoons and knives. It has always been the forks that have stumped me the most. They definitely have the most going on with all those tines but I hadn't been able to come up with anything other than garden art or some sort of mini easel out of them. So here is my newest take on the old vintage fork...

This was a fun 15min project that one should not do without the proper tools. Although it looks easy it was more work than I originally thought. Maybe due to lack of sleep too.

I have been running ragged this weekend and today working on last min projects and new items for the Deepwood Vintage Flea Market this upcoming Friday the 16th and Saturday the 17th.

Upcycled project for the Deepwood Vintage Flea Market

So as many know I am hosting the Deepwood Vintage Flea Market this year.  I was pondering over a theme that I haven't done yet for an event and came up with a sort of play off of Alice in Wonderland.  But knowing Roost Reimagined it has to be VINTAGE and it has to REIMAGINED.  So I went to work digging through the Historic Deepwood house and found these little pretties in the attic.

So although the flamingos DID fit in the garden and they DID fit into my theme they however DID NOT look all that cute.  So I set to work REIMAGINING them.  Here they are with a fresh coat of paint.

So I couldn't just let the poor things be bald could I?  So I went ahead and gave them some feathers.

So after adding the feathers I decided that they needed a little vintage bling.

 So I originally planned on all the flamingos being all the same so I only had 19 crowns.  I was expecting around 15-19 vendors for the show.  However I have around 30 vendors for this years show so I had to improvise. (Crowns are upcycled from UGLY cupcake toppers)

So here is what I came up with for the additional crowns. 

I used vintage lace that I glued in a circle with hot glue, then spray painted it with silver rattle can paint, then soaked it in Elmer's glue and coated the whole thing in silver glitter.  I think it almost turned out better then the original crown.  Now I have some variety and they are still super cute!

New rack cards are on the way

So I have have been waiting on these rack cards for 3 weeks with this new company that I was referred to and well I am STILL waiting... It's pretty bad when 3/4 of the information on the card is now invalid. So I finally called the company, waited on hold for 26 minutes, (yes I am one of those who actually keeps track of how long things take) to get passed to another person, who passes me to a voicemail to someone on "lunch" who calls me back a day later and tells me to re-send my images in another form.... Then tells me it will be another 2 weeks until they actually reach my house. This is why I love Vista Print click download, pay, and they arrive on my doorstep within a week at the longest(granted more expensive then the competition) They still actually make it.

Here is my newest image for my brand new rack cards. Guaranteed to be on my porch in 2 days!

So I cannot say enough how wonderful all my Roost customers are... You guys and gals are all so amazing! I cannot tell you how much you guys truly inspire me. I couldn't do what I do without your loyal support. The Molly Mo's Show was so inspiring to be a part of. There was an amazing amount of vendor talent, and Dianne (owner of Molly Mo's) is the most gracious hostess, wonderful designer, great friend, and super mom. She makes the whole show come together so flawlessly we just all stand back in awe. I was so honored to be a part of it all. So thank you all who came out to the show. Molly Mo's Vintage Flea Market starts tomorrow at 8 AM!

So I managed to make it through the Plucky Maiden's Junk Fest on Thursday night, set up for Molly Mo's Antique Faire today, make a awesome Chinese chicken salad for a potlucks, get stung by a bee, clean up, facebook, and finally get to sit down all in a day's time. I'm pooped and I got to get up at 6:00am. I am really hoping you all bring some friends out to see me tomorrow. The show opens at 8:00am. There will be wonderful food, espresso drinks, tasty beverages, SUPER GREAT STUFF, and well me to.

Six Pence Puts on an AMAZing Vintage Market.

This Sunday Six Pence put on a wonderful Antique and Vintage Flea Market. I was lucky enough to be invited into the show and had a blast being there. Although I am still recovering! My husband and I woke up at 3:30 in the morning and took off with our 8 year old to the show. We arrived in the dark to set up our booth at 5:00 am. No I didn't think to bring flash lights but I will keep this in mind for the Camas Street Faire in a couple weeks. Usually waking up early isn't a problem being a gal that has to finish up all my loose ends I was working on stuff until 1:30am! All in all we made it through the day and unpacked to go through stuff and repack more items for the next weekend.

Mama Roost and I will be heading to Sublimity for the Molly Mo's Show on Saturday August 20th.

I scored some really great finds at the Six Pence show and junked all weekend for the upcoming show.

I bought this AMAZING old French style baby crib at the show this last weekend and today I did an upcycled project to it. All materials used in this project were upcycled from other things.

So it seems that this month is going to be an avalanche of events, loading, traveling, unloading, staging, packing, more traveling and squeeze in the occasional creating in the mid week time. So here I am gearing up for this Sunday for the Lake Oswego Street Faire (for more info click here) and I get out my project list of things I want to create throughout the month of August. These are GOALS mind you not actually have to be done things (that's what I tell myself anyway) But I thought that I would share some with you and see what you think maybe I can scratch a few off my list to create. Also as I was cleaning up from the show at the Roost Barn I was going over my new ideas for my "Black Autumn" sale that is in October ooooooh that's going to be a goooood show!

This looks like an excellent way to use up grandma's old doilies in a new upcycled way

Well Roost is used to using these old pallets but I love this new twist. This would go great with my wicker couch set!

We had 30 empty bottles of wine from last weekend's show I thought this was a great recycled project too tackle

So obviously I am a sucker for table runners but they are so great for entertaining so I think I'll knock out a couple of these but I might add some ruffles on the ends to add a touch of Roost to them.

I found some really plain lamps out junking this week and I was trying to figure out how to jazz them up. Here's a great idea to run with. I'll see how this pans out I'm not quite sold on it.

This is a personal project that I have been contemplating for quite some time. I found my basic materials to create this I have been just waiting to see if I change my mind. I have ALWAYS wanted a pin tuck comforter or my favorite is the "circus" duvet cover from Anthro but being a JUNKER and upcycler I can't fork over the $$$$ for one of those covers. So I am compromising with my wallet and time by making my own. Here's the basic idea for what it will look like.

I first met Christine at the Funky Junk Sister's "Junk Salvation" show in Hillsboro in February. She had some really great vintage things and a ton of creativity. So for the past week I have been a little absent in the blog world because I have been in my yard soaking up the beautiful weather, getting new bark dust, planting new plants, weeding my garden, cleaning my outdoor furniture and gearing up for a baby shower that I was to host today for one of my best friends. Annual Historic Deepwood Estate Wine and Jazz Festival

I love this event and I go every year without fail.

The event is held on June 25th from 4-9pm in the lovely Deepwood Gardens.

15 Willamette Valley wineries with over 75 wines will be featured. A variety of gourmet delights will be available and include selections from Bentley’s Grill, Café Venae, Gamberetti’s, Queen of Tarts, Vitality Bistro at Wellspring, and Willamette Valley Cheese Company priced at $5.00 or less.

So you really can't tell in this picture as I was too tired to find my camera but the ticking is actually light blue and the one handle is actually navy blue. All materials were 100% recycled or vintage (even the thread was salvaged) I don't usually use color in my designs I tend to stick with the neutral colors but the light blue ticking was screaming at me when I saw it so I had to snatch it up. I am also working on a fun red fabric rose pin to finish these off.

Recently I have been on the hunt for some garden art for my tomato plants and sweat peas to climb and everything that I have ADORED has been about $18-$20 each stake. For me this is a little much for a seasonal item especially when I need 3 of them.

So here is me being cheap and still maintaining my chic vintage look even in my garden.

I took the door knobs cut them in half and welded them to the re-bar whole project took about 15 minutes.

This project cost me $6 and I got 3 garden stakes out of that expense. I will tell you that normally vintage door knobs depending on the size and design are around $10-$30 for a pair. However I happen to get mine from my grandma in a box that she was getting rid of. The re-bar is about $2 each piece at Lowe's or Dome Depot. So if you were going to tackle this project it would likely cost you closer to $20 for (2) But still is a much cheaper option for garden art!

So this weekend I was busy Junkin' in the Salem area and came across these great finds for Farm Chicks coming up in less than 2 weeks! I feel like I hit the jackpot with all those scales!

Well my hoarding time is winding down and I can finally pull out those great "original" finds that I have been saving in storage for the Farm Chicks Event. Here is the trailer as of this afternoon. It's about 1/3 full and gradually filling up more each day...
